Perhaps the most electric city in the world is New York City. Manhattan has many districts that separate the city into regions like Greenwich Village, Soho, East Village, Midtown East, Tribeca, Chinatown, Financial District, Little Italy, and Gramercy. We found an excellent map of New York City HERE with each area highlighted and the map is interactive so all you have to do is click on a region to get taken to a list of hotels in that area. Some of the best locations are near Times Square or Central Park, but with the subway system being so convenient, no matter where you stay it's easy to zip around to any location within a few minutes. I've stayed at the Marriott East Side and the Sheraton in Midtown West before. The Hilton Times Square offers some incredible views of the skyline and surrounding brights lights that Times Square has. The price of a room in NYC is not cheap and many hotels have done just fine after 9/11 and room rates are now $300/night or more in many hotels. The rooms are small in many situations since space is a premium in Manhattan. You are paying to be in the middle of everything so accept the hotel rates and enjoy the other benefits of being entertained almost 24 hours a day. You can walk through Central Park or visit the waterfront area for free and not have to spend extravagently to have a good time. Another option is to stay in New Jersey and take the subway into NYC for the day and evening and then return to your hotel late at night. I don't suggest this as it is much easier to bite the bullet and spend a little extra to have a cozy hotel room in the middle of Manhattan.
New York City Vacation Tips, Recommendations, and Advice: Suggestions for a better Trip!:
As we mentioned above, the sights in New York City are neverending with places like Central Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, Battery Park, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, and the South Street Seaport. Restaurants are on every corner and food is expensive, but you'll enjoy most of the meals. Getting around by subway is really easy and there are subway maps located HERE. You will find a larger map in each subway station that you can carry around in your adventures. Make sure you make it to the top of the Empire State Building on your visit and get out to the Statue of Liberty. The events of 9/11 definitely rocked the city but since New York has come back stronger than ever and people are out to all hours of the evening enjoying their lives. Check out the theater district and catch a play if you can. Tripadvisor.com is an excellent resource when looking into activities as they have forums with user comments on everything from restaurants and food to sightseeing and walking tours.
