Reviews: Best Reno Hotels

Reno, Nevada was and is still considered the "Biggest little city in the world". Unfortunately the city itself has lost some of it's luster over the last few decades and as Las Vegas has taken the spotlight from Reno, much of downtown Reno has become an area in need of some upgrades. There are still all sorts of conventions held in Reno that draw in big crowds and their casinos attract plenty of gamblers each year from California. Hot August Nights is an annual summer event that pulls out classic cars from the 1950's and 1960's. The great thing about staying in a hotel in a town with gambling is that most rooms are fairly cheap since the gamblers make up for the difference. Hotel rooms in Reno regularly go for $60 or less during the midweek and about $20 - $40 more on weekends. Still a bargain for most people staying there. Some of the more popular hotels include Eldorado, Atlantis, Peppermill, Silvery Legacy, Harrah's, Circus Circus, and the Silver Legacy. Which hotel is right for you? Keep reading below to find out.

Business travelers will definitely like the Atlantis Casino Resort which is closer to the airport than downtown. It's away from the hustle and bustle of the gambling scene but still right next to the convention center which makes it convenient if you are attending an event there. My wife traveled back and forth to Reno for almost 2 years on business and stayed at the Atlantis Hotel almost all the time. When the Atlantis was full she would stay at the Silver Legacy Resort. Families will definitely want to check out Circus Circus hotel with their staff and events catered to kids and family activities. Rooms at the Circus Circus start at about $50/night and go up to about $100 for a nice suite. If you want to stay near the Truckee River, go with the Siena Hotel Spa Casino and relax in luxury. Downtown Reno is not that big (at least compared to the Strip in Vegas) so you can easily walk to all the casinos and enjoy the nightlife. If you are just passing through for the night and don't want to get involved with the downtown Reno scene, stay on the outskirts of town at the Courtyard Reno with excellent Marriott amenities and room rates that are very reasonable. We have tried to supply some of the "best hotels" in Reno below per surveys done on Exepdia and TripAdvisor.com.

Reno Vacation Tips, Recommendations, and Advice: Suggestions for a better Trip!:

Reno is a fun city for all ages and I have stayed there multiple times over the years. I would say the city is finally starting to improve it's image. The homeless problem was out of control for a while with derelicts panhandling on the streets right in front of the casinos. The "dirty" image is slowly improving and real estate values have shot up in the Reno area in recent years to help improve the economy and overall outlook. If you do stay in Reno try to get out to Lake Tahoe for a boat ride or just to sit on the shore and admire the beauty of this gorgeous lake. In the winter the skiing is amazing as you head towards Incline Village, Northstar, or Heavenly. The dead of summer can be extremely hot in Reno so if you plan on playing golf or doing other outdoor activities get out early to avoid the high heat.
