San Diego is a great city to travel to for business or pleasure. Many families choose San Diego as their vacation destination since it has plenty of activities to keep everyone busy. You can go to Seaworld or visit their world famous San Diego Zoo. The one reason why San Diego makes for the perfect getaway city is because of their year-round weather which is very mild and allows you to visit almost any time of year. A rental car is not necessary if you stay in the Gaslamp or waterfront districts as you can easily walk or take a taxi to your destination. I took my daughter on a bike taxi and she thought that was just amazing that some guy/girl would ride you around the city and pull you on their bicycle. In my opinion the best area to stay in is the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego with restaurants, hotels, and shops to keep you busy. The newer Marriott Courtyard in the Gaslamp Quarter is a favorite to many travelers since the location is perfect. The hotel rates are not cheap, though, so be prepared to spend at least $250/night or more. There are cheaper hotels located in other areas of the city which offer water views.
Coronado Island is another destination for those wanting to get away from the city life but still be near downtown San Diego. Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego has 31 acres of oceanfront property that overlook the San Diego skyline and the resort is spectacular. Many visitors to San Diego go for the beaches with the warm waters and prefer staying right along the waterfront for quick access to the ocean. Bahia Resort Hotel is located in Mission Bay near SeaWorld and offers views of the Pacific Ocean along with lots of watersports to keep you entertained. Balboa Park has museums and art displays and is where you can find the San Diego Zoo. Many hotels offer free shuttle service from the airport to the downtown locations and several even has courtesy vans that take you to places like the zoo or SeaWorld for no charge. Down below we have tried to list the top rated hotels in San Diego per websites like TripAdvisor.com where actual tourists and travelers have chosen their favorites. There are links you can click on to take you to the official homepage of that particular hotel.
San Diego Vacation Tips, Recommendations, and Advice: Suggestions for a better Trip!:
With many families visiting San Diego each year to see SeaWorld, the Zoo and other attractions, we suggest going to Sandiego.org which is the official website for the city and offers discounts and coupons (packages) to many activities. There are golf packages with guaranteed tee times at Torrey Pines (site of the 2008 US Open) and discounts on dining. Of course the site is loaded with information on the latest hotels (the Diegan opens December 2007), concerts, sporting events, and museums. One of our favorite sites for finding the best deals on rental cars, entrance fees to theme parks, and discounts on tickets is at Mousesavers.com. They are really focused on Southern California with an excellent section on San Diego as well. Take at least 3 to 4 days to see San Diego and enjoy the weather.
