Seattle is an awesome city with water views almost everywhere and activities throughout the city to keep any tourist busy for at least a few days. Hotels are located in all the top spots so choose accordingly and try to find a hotel near where you will spend most of your time. If you plan on going to a basketball game at the Key Arena or want to go up the Space Needle, find a hotel near the Seattle Center. The monorail station nearby will allow you easy access to the other parts of the city including Pike Place Market and Westlake Plaza. The waterfront area features the Hotel Monaco Seattle near the Pike Place Market with the famous fish throwing vendors. You can catch ferries over to BainBridge island or check out the Seattle aquarium.
I haved stayed at the Sheraton Downtown Seattle which is right off Union Street and 6th Avenue. You can walk down Pike Street to the market or get on the monorail to go to the Space Needle. There are literally dozens of restaurants in the Westlake Center area with shopping (like Nordstrom's). Be sure to ask any hotel if they offer views of the waterfront or city from their rooms. Seattlesupersaver.com is an excellent hotel resource site for Seattle with rooms available in the downtown area, University District, and the waterfront. Expect to spend from $150 to $300 a night depending on the accommodations and amenities. For a nice map of the Seattle (downtown) region, go to See-Seattle.com and look at their maps page. All the top tourist attractions are highlighted and you can quickly see what streets are closest to where you want to be. If you are looking for true luxury, consider the Fairmont Olympic Seattle situated in the heart of Seattle. Down below we have tried to list some of the top hotels in Seattle per user feedback on sites like Tripadvisor.com. We have provided links to their official website where you can book a hotel room and a brief description of there general location.
Seattle Vacation Tips, Recommendations, and Advice: Suggestions for a better Trip!
Seattle is definitely a family friendly city with plenty of things to do for the entire family. We suggest starting your trip planning at Visitseattle.org to see some sample itineraries. Many of the general attractions within the city can be done in a day or 2. If you plan on seeing BainBridge island or going to Mt Rainier, plan on spending at least 3 days in Seattle. The ferry system is excellent from the port of Seattle and I highly recommend taking the ferry over to Victoria, BC for the day. Weather in Seattle is definitely not the finest in the United States, but in the summer days are pleasant and the rain is minimal. I have been plenty of times in the dead of winter and not seen much rain, although the temperatures are very cold (40's or 50's). Parking can be a hassle in downtown Seattle and traffic is only getting worse. Don't plan on driving around much if you are staying at a hotel in downtown. Expect to walk to catch the monorail (where available). I recently stayed at the Springhill Suites on Yale Ave. in the downtown region and they offer a free shuttle to the Space Needle and Westlake Mall which is a huge benefit to those that want to avoid driving around the city.
