The US dollar has lost a lot of value compared to the Canadian dollar in recent years, but you can still find great deals when traveling to Vancouver, BC. The harbor and water views from several of the hotels are worth the extra money. Shoppers will want to stay near Robson Street and the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is a great selection just for this purpose since it's right at Burrard and Robson streets. Looking for a waterfront hotel with city or water views, try the Pan Pacific Vancouver Hotel. The Days Inn Vancouver Downtown and the Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle are two other locations down near the waterfront. Hotel rates are $200/night and up for waterfront views and slighly less for city views.

If you can handle walking a few city blocks to the touristy spots, then consider staying at the Holiday Inn Vancouver Downtown on Howe Street or at the Best Western Downtown Vancouver on Drake Street and Granville St. In a recent visit of mine to Vancouver, I stayed at the Opus Hotel in Yaletown which is a hot spot for nightlife. Granville Island is another area that visitors love to visit and the Granville Island Hotel (listed below) will offer you spacious rooms and a great location. Looking for a resort experience, then go with the Westin Bayshore Resort right along the water in downtown Vancouver. There are 320 guest rooms that offer water, mountain, and city views. Rooms are well over $300 Canadian a night but reviews say it's worth the money. Robson Square is a fun place to be around in the daytime and Wedgewood Hotel is practically right on top of the square in a perfect location for walking around the city. Definitely get a rental car if you fly into Vancouver, BC. You will want to visit Grouse Mountain, or Capilano suspension bridge. Stanely Park is not too far from the downtown area and should provide at least a few hours of entertainment while you make your way around the park. An excellent sidetrip from Vancouver is taking a ferry over to Victoria and spending the day there or over at Butchart Gardens. The people of Vancouver are friendly and the city has plenty to offer. Try to spend at least 2 to 3 days in and around the city itself and one extra day on Victoria. Many of my friends have stayed at Bed and Breakfasts in Vancouver and say the experience is awesome. The weather in Vancouver can be a bit of everything so pack accordingly and expect rain, sun, and clouds.
