Reviews: Best Venice Hotels

Venice is an incredible city to visit and almost anywhere you choose to stay will do just fine since you can walk everywhere on the island. Some hotels are closer to Piazza San Marco or Rialto Bridge, but literally you are just a 15 minute walk to those attractions pretty much no matter where you book your room. I recently stayed in Venice and reserved a hotel about 2 minutes from Piazza San Marco called Hotel Colombina. The magical part of the trip was taking a water taxi right to the front entrance of the hotel (my wife love this). Hotel Colombina had rooms with high ceilings and marble bathrooms. For around $250/night we had an excellent hotel that was situated just off the beaten track in Venice. Now some people want water views of the Grand Canal and those hotels are often a little pricier. Foscari Palace is one of these hotels that has rooms overlooking the Grand Canal. You can find their hotel website listed below in the "most popular" section.

St. Mark's Square is the major site that all tourists come to enjoy while in Venice. The hotels that are within walking distance (a few minutes or so) from the square tend to be the most crowded so book your room well in advance of your stay. The Best Western Albergo San Marco is close by and situated off a small street that is loaded with great shopping. Hotel Marconi is a great spot if you are looking to stay near the world famous Rialto Bridge that crosses the Grand Canal. You will also be close to the Rialto market which runs most days of the week with fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats. Hotel Belle Arti is off the main area and across the Grand Canal and near the Galleria dell'Accademia and the Peggy Guggenheim museums. Part of the fun of being in Venice is that there are no cars allowed (the streets are too crowded or narrow) and you can really never get lost since you are on an island. Some hotels we found do offer Internet specials and deals during certain times of the year (the off season mostly). Venice is perhaps the most expensive city to stay in based on the cost of hotels and food. Make sure you visit the websites of any hotel you plan on staying at to see pictures of the rooms and get an idea of where it located in vicinity to other things you want to see once in Venice. See a quick list below of the "Most Popular" hotels in Venice taken from travel websites like TripAdvisor and Expedia.com.

Venice Vacation Tips, Recommendations, and Advice: Suggestions for a better Trip!:

What I found in Venice were expensive hotels, pricey food, and plenty to see and do. One thing you need to understand is that Venice is not cheap, but you can still enjoy almost all the visual attractions without spending a dime. Sure, the hotel rooms cost a lot, but for just a few nights out of your life you will be amazed at the sights while walking around the city. Gondolas go up and down canals and small bridges allow you to get across on foot. The Grand Canal is worth a look from a vaporetto (boat) as you cruise up or down the canal for only a few euros. The churches in the city are spectacular both from the outside and inside. Be sure to get into at least a few of them. Ask your hotel for some recommendations on restaurants. It's best to eat where the locals do to avoid the crowds and get more authentic Italian cuisine. Our hotel guided us to a great spot that we would have never found otherwise. Be adventurous in the evening as the city is safe even after hours and stroll along moonlit canals or through small courtyards and squares.
