American Airlines:

American Airlines is one of the largest airlines in the world with headquarters located in Fort Worth, Texas. American Airlines operates flights in the United States and throughout the world including Europe, Japan, India, China, Canada, Latin American, and the Caribbean. They serve over 150 cities with major hubs located at Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) airport, Miami (MIA), San Juan (SJU), Chicago (ORD), and St. Louis (STL). American Airlines partners with Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Hawaiian Airlines, Qantas, and Mexicana just to name a few. Business travelers find that American flys into almost all major cities in the US and they offer convenient connections or non-stop flights.

The official website for American Airlines is online at AA.com which should be easy enough to remember for most of us. The website offers flight reservations, gate information, schedule times, flight status notifications, baggage information, online check-in, and ticketing. You can book one-way, round-trip or multiple city airline tickets right off their website. The great thing about the American Airlines website is that you can book cars, hotels, cruises, etc. right on the site once you have checked your flight schedule and pricing. American Airlines fares are comparable to many of the other major airlines, but they have been unable to compete that well with Southwest Airlines who is now getting access to the DFW airport which should create more issues for American. In a recenty survey done by Consumer Reports on the "best airlines" American didn't do so well. They finished 12th on the list with average or below average ratings for seating comfort, on-time performance, and cabin staff service. Low cost carriers and price cuts have really hurt airlines like American and the service they can offer compared to say 10 years ago. Many of the leading analysts in the airline industry say that the larger carriers will soon revamp their business models enough to compete with the low fare carriers. I live in the Northwest and see very little presence from American Airlines at the airports I travel to and from.

Booking Tickets on American Airlines:

Trying to book airline tickets through American Airlines is really easy. You can go directly to their official website (AA.com) or you will also find their flight schedules and listings on major travel sites like Expedia.com or Orbitz.com. Ideally you book your flights through their main website to get the biggest discounts and the cheapest rates possible. If the Internet is not for you, then just call the American Airlines phone number at 800-433-7300. You can also get 24 hour toll-free automated help for current flight schedules and gate information at 800-223-5436. The web has made travel reservations easier than ever and we say give their website a try first and you will quickly see how convenient booking can be. You can also check any reservations you currently have online or check-in online as well. Like all other airline websites, you just type in your dates of departure and arrival and the airports you will be flying in or out of with some basic timeframes. The website will pull up schedules and fares listed by price or schedule. You can enter promotion or discount codes when booking online and get discounted airfares.

American Airlines Frequent Flyer Program:

One of the reasons people pick and stay with an airline is because of the frequent flyer programs. AAdvantage is the name of the American Airlines frequent flyer program and it's been around for over 20 years. The program is similar to those offered by other airlines with the option to earn free flights, upgrades, and other awards. You can earn miles by flying on American or through their partners as well. You can join instantly online at AA.com and view your account online to track your latest mile totals. Airline seats are starting to fill up again after 9/11 and so finding space on any airline these days is hard with frequent flyer award miles. The only advice that experts can give American Airline frequent flyer members is to book early and be really flexible when reserving tickets.

American Airlines Credit Card:

I have always used credit cards associated with the airline I fly most frequently since I get mileage for every dollar I spend. That is NOT the case with the American Airlines credit card as of the writing of this article. Southwest Airlines and United Airlines are just a few major carriers that offer credit cards with their logos in which you can buy everyday items and get miles for them on their airlines. Why American Airlines doesn't give you miles for purchases is beyond us, but perhaps they will change it soon. You can signup online to get the credit card at AA.com. The one bonus is that the card (from Citibank) has no annual fee and has some deferred payment plans.

Where Does American Airlines Fly to?:

That's the biggest question most people ask when looking into an airline. American will take you pretty much around the world by servicing major cities like Madrid, Frankfurt, Zurich, Rome, Paris, London, Tokyo, Shanghai, Delhi, Seoul, Bogota, Lima, Rio, Mexico City, and plenty of places throughout the Caribbean.
