Cruises are the most popular form of vacation these days supplying travelers of all ages with access to far away and beautiful places. Luxury Cruises travel to destinations such as the Mediterranean, Panama, Alaska, and Hawaii. The top Cruise companies are - Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Radisson, Celebrity, Princess, Norwegian, and Disney. All Cruise companies offer a variety of accomodations while onboard. You can go with a cheap cruise (usually means an interior room with no windows). There are so many discount cruises available, you should never be paying full price. If you want to have a luxury cruise, we recommend the Norwegian Cruise Line. If you want a cheap Cruise (as in price), go with Carnival or Celebrity cruise lines. Royal Caribbean is a quality Cruise company along with Crystal. Many families have found that Disney Cruises offer something for the whole family. An Alaskan Cruise is my personal favorite with the chance to see parts of the country that are not viewable form a car. Similarly, a Mediterranean Cruise offers views of coastal cities that are unattainable from anything other than a boat.

Best Way to Book a Cruise:

Surprisingly enough I have found that good old-fashioned travel agents can sometimes get the best rates on cruises. There are online cruise vacation sites like Cruise.com which have 100's of options to choose from. You can them 24 hours a day at 888-333-3116 or book online using their forms. You pretty much choose your destination, the month you want to depart in, and the # of days you will be gone for. Then, you will need to find which city the cruise departs from and if they can build an airfare into your final price. Remember that inside rooms are cheaper, oceanviews are more expensive, and suites are the priciest of all. Some cruise lines specialize in certain cruises so be sure to compare all their prices to find the best deal. Many of the bigger cruise travel sites now offer customer reviews so you can read up on particular cruise ships and see which one(s) fits your needs. Some people say meals are better on certain lines or that rooms are setup better. If you have never 'cruised' before then the first time can be a little daunting with lots of decisions to be made. Talk with your local travel agent or get online and research all the cruise lines before purchasing anything. Often, last minute cruise deals exist, but you have to be able to go on a whim! Don't forget, almost all cruise travel includes meals as part of the price, but not alcoholic drinks. I have found that the off-ship excursions are very expensive and can easily double your overall budget if you like to get out and try new things.

Choosing the best cruise line and destination?:

We have personally taken luxury cruises all over the world and have some helpful hints in choosing your cruise vacation. Time of year makes a big difference on where you should try to go. Don't assume an Alaska Cruise will be good weather in May (go in July or August for the best chance at good weather). Decide on how much off boat activities you want to do. They do cost money and if you want a cheap cruise experience, then go to the Caribbean or Hawaii where the scenery itself is worth the money. Even a Mediterranean cruise is a good vacation choice if you enjoy looking more than doing. On our Alaskan cruise, we probably spent 35% more (than the cost of the cruise itself) just to do things at port. Discount cruising is available to those that like to eat and relax on board. Our favorite cruise line is the Norwegian ships. They are clean, comfortable, and travel to all the major destinations. Celebrity Cruises are for younger adults. Carnival and Disney are for families. If you can get a group to commit, often cruise lines will give you steep discount for traveling together. That's essentially how travel agents and some of the larger cruise sites get such good deals anyways. The majority of the cruise ships are amazing inside these days with huge dining halls, movie theaters, swimming pools, dance clubs, bars, restaurants, and much more. Ask friends and family if they have taken any cruises lately and see what they say. We found many of the specific cruises we went on by getting opinions from others and researching those destinations online.
