National Rental CarsThere are about half a dozen major rental car companies and National happens to be one of them. They are located at over 3000 locations worldwide and offer excellent rates for both business and leisure travelers. Their range of automobile rentals include compact Chevrolet Cobalts, standard size Chevrolet Monte Carlo, premium cars like the Buick Lucerne, convertibles such as the Chrysler PT Cruiser, and minivans or SUVs. You can even rent hybrid cars like the Toyota Prius in certain locations or get the Garmin StreetPilot GPS in your rental for $10.99/day although we believe those rates will slowly come down as navigational systems become more common in rental cars. If you want the lowest rates, we definitely suggest logging on to Nationalcar.com and checking out their latest last minute specials or daily rates from most major airports nationwide. By joining the Emerald Club you can cut down on wait times at the counter and altogether pass up the lines and just get in your car and go. National has excellent customer service and provides a quality line of cars to rent from most locations. I have used them up and down the west coast for years with little or no problems.
Renting with National:Booking a car through National is rather easy - just them at 1 (800) 227-7368 or go online to Nationalcar.com. I prefer using their website and being able to enter in a variety of discount and contract IDs to see which ones save me the most money. Online you can view, modify or cancel any reservation and get rate information at all their locations. Just type in your airport code or city, the dates you want the car, what size car you need, and get a quick estimate of costs. Paying full price for a rental car is just plain silly with all the discounts out there. See our next section below on ways to save through printable coupons or codes that you enter in at the time of rental. If you already have a profile entered with your drivers license # then you can rent a car in seconds as all your preferences are fed into the system. In cases where you must return the car to a different location than you pick it up at, I recommend calling the 800 # listed above so you can talk to a sales agent. I have found that they can help divert you to a location that might have ZERO drop-off fees involved. The website is easy to follow and lists all the different makes and sizes of cars for a quick comparison. Another option is to go to sites like Expedia or Travelocity and enter your information in and get a thorough rate comparison between all rental companies like Avis, Hertz, Alamo, or Dollar.Coupons, Discounts Codes, and Promo Rates:E-Coupons are a great way to save a few bucks when renting from National. We have found countless discounts and promo rates online that you enter when booking at Nationalcar.com. Our favorite site for coupons is HERE with updates regularly that point you towards discount codes and promotional rates on weekly or weekend rentals around the country. National allows you to "stack" your discounts and coupons together when booking online which means you can really save on their rates. By combining, Contract IDs, Coupons, and Product Rate Codes you may find yourself with a 30% discount off the rack rate. Many of the discount codes are for everyone like Wal-Mart customers who can use Contract ID 5000304 to get up to 20% off. Many of the airlines partner with National for even more reduced rates. Mousesavers.com is loaded with information and printable coupons to help you save on your next car rental.National Emerald Club:If you are going to travel extensively for work or pleasure then joining a frequent car rental club is a good idea to cut down on lines at the checkout counter and get you on your way much faster. Many memberships are free so there is really no good reason not to join. As for the frequent renter club of National, it's called the Emerald Club and the benefits of joining are many. The biggest perk I can see is that you can bypass the counter and pick your own car. There are also things like free rental days, car upgrades, e-coupons, and more. You can join online and join at Nationalcar.com. The fee is normally $50 but the Mousesavers.com site (listed above) has a link where you can get your membership for FREE. If you have to join one rental car club we say it should be National since it is a great company even for leisure travelers.
