Ontario International Airport - ONT:

LA Ontario International Airport now has 36 non-stop flights which are provided by 12 major airlines like JetBlue, United, and Southwest. The airport has about 930 weekly flights to places like Denver, Las Vegas, JFK, Honolulu, Guadalajara, Portland, San Francisco, Chicago (Midway), and Dallas. ONT (airport code) is located about 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles and is considered a medium size airport. I have flown into Ontario Airport several times on my way out to Palm Desert, CA as it is much cheaper to fly into Ontario and rent a car than it is to fly straight into Palm Springs. Ontario, to me, is a small airport that is easy to get or out of. The weather is normally pretty good so there are few flight delays related to weather conditions. The new non-stop flight from ONT to JFK is a huge boom for business travelers who were stuck flying out of LAX or making stopovers along the way. There are really 2 different sites for information on the airport - Flyontario.com which appears to be the official site with limited info or http://www.lawa.org/ont/welcomeONT.cfm which offers maps, airlines, flight arrivals/departures, ground transportation, and the latest news or security level updates.

Driving Directions to Ontario International Airport:

The airport is located right near the junction of I-15, I-10 and the 60 freeway. Holt Avenue runs along one side and Mission Blvd is on the other side. It's easiest to approach the Ontario airport off of Interstate 10. Take the Archibald exit towards the airport and get off on Airport Dr. You can also come in off of Haven or Vineyard Ave. You can view a general map of the airport and surrounding area by clicking HERE. I have driven back from Palm Springs several times to fly out of Ontario and I must advise you to give yourself some extra time getting there since the morning commute traffic on I-10 can be pretty bad in the Inland Empire region.

Ontario Airport Terminals - Airlines Served:

Ontario airport has 3 terminals which serve about a dozen airlines. You can find an excellent map of the Ontario airport terminals HERE. The map shows you a basic layout of the airport with Terminal 2 and 4 listed along with the International Arrivals Terminal. Down below you will find the basic details of each terminal and what airlines are served:
International Terminal Airlines Served are AeroMexico and Lineas Aereas Azteca.
Terminal 2 Airlines Served are AeroMexico, Alaska, Continental, Delta, Express Jet, JetBlue, and United/United Express/TED.
Terminal 4 Airlines served are American, ATA, Lineas Aereas Azteca, Southwest, and US Airways.

Parking - Short Term vs Long Term:

There is lots of parking available at Ontario airport with close to 7000 parking spaces. The parking lots are designated as Lot 2, 3, 4, and 5. Daily Lot 2 is right outside Terminal 2 and Lot 4 is in front of Terminal 4. Between Lots 2 and 4 is 3 which gives you access to either terminal. Daily Lot 5 is the largest of them all and offers a 24-hour shuttle to get you to the terminal on time. Lots 2 and 4 charge about $2/hr with a flat rate of $15/day for overnight or extended stay travelers. Daily Lot 3 is roughly $11/day and Lot 5 is $7/day. The long term parking option is at the Economy Parking Lot F which is about 1 mile from the terminals. You can catch the shuttle (comes by every 10 to 12 minutes) back to the terminals. There is a flat rate of $6/day in the long term parking zone. You can see all the parking rates online HERE. If you are ok with parking off-site, consider looking at the website Longtermparking.com. They offer long term parking coupon discount rates, just print out the coupon and redeem at the parking lot.

Airport Shuttles, Rental Cars, and Taxis:

Rental Cars - Renting a car at Ontario airport is about as easy as it gets. Although the cars are technically on-site, you literally are taken a few minutes away on a rental car shuttle bus to the rental car center. The crowds at this airport are minimal compared to LAX so getting in and out is fairly quick and simple. You can rent from Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, or National on-site and Rent4Less which is off-airport on E. Holt Blvd. I have found that a mid-size car regularly rents for about $25/day through this airport. You can get websites, addresses and phone #'s for each rental car company in the area HERE.
Taxis - Need to catch a cab to or from the airport? The two taxi services that come highly recommended are Bell Cab Company (800-340-8294) and Yellow Cab Company (800-305-8294). Taxis are at the curbs just outside the baggage claim area ready to help you get to your next destination. More details on taxi fees are available HERE.
Door to Door Shuttles - One way to save some money is to catch one of the airport shuttles that takes you and several other passengers to your hotels or other destination. Express Shuttle and Super Shuttle do operate out of the Ontario airport and are reputable companies that often give you a coupon if you visit their website first. The cost is often $10 to $20 per person depending on how far you need to travel. If you are set on taking a door to door shuttle bus, you can find websites and phone #'s for all the shuttle services at the airport HERE.
