Orlando Airport Shuttle Service:

One of the biggest questions we get from our visitors is "Should we rent a car on our trip to Disneyworld?". Eventhough car rentals are relatively cheap anywhere in Florida, renting a car from the Orlando International Airport (MCO) doesn't always make sense. If you are going to stay at any of the Disneyworld Resorts like the Disney's Polynesian Resort, Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Port Orleans Resort, or the Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort you will not need to have a rental car unless you plan on doing extensive trips outside of this region. Our suggestion is to catch an airport shuttle bus or van out of Orlando airport and forget the car rental. Parking at the Disney parks is at $10/day so leaving your car in the parking lot all day long (not using it) just doesn't make sense at all. There are plenty of airport shuttle services that operate out of Orlando and pricing is fairly competitive. The more people in your party, usually the better the deal you can negotiate. The airport is roughly 15 miles from the resorts and hotels on International Drive and about 20 miles to the Disneyworld complex of theme parks and accommodations. The good news is that if you are staying at one of the select Walt Disney World Resort hotels you get FREE airport transportation service, called Disney's Magical Express Transportation. No need to pick up your baggage as it is pre-arranged to be picked up by Disney staff and taken directly to your hotel with you.

If you are not staying at a qualified Disney resort and don't get the complimentary shuttle bus, then you still have dozens of options available to you and your party. The real question is which service to use - buses, rental cars, shuttle vans, limousines, or a taxi cab. No matter whether you are staying at a Disneyworld resort property or at an off-site hotel, Orlando airport transportation is quick and efficient. We like taking a taxi or private shuttle. You can see some sample pricing listed below:

• Going to International Drive, expect to pay these fees: $18 for a one way trip on Shuttle bus, $33 to $40 for a taxi (one way), local bus is $2
• Headed to Walt Disney World: $20 one way in a shuttle bus ($33 roundtrip), $60 taxi ride, limousine is about $50 per hour

If you are by yourself then of course a taxi is not worth the cost, go with a shuttle package. For all others, especially those traveling with a family, then consider the taxi service as pricing makes more sense. Why pay a shuttle service $60+ for a family of 4 when you can get in a cab and cut the cost immediately. We were lucky enough on our trip to Disneyworld that through our Costco vacation package that a shuttle company picked up our family in a large SUV and took us to our resort. It was part of the package so I don't know the exact amount it would have been worth, but my estimates are that we would have paid $60/each way for something like that otherwise. Arrange the shuttle service in advance if you can so that you aren't waiting around at the airport. Cabs are right in the ground transportation area as you leave the baggage claim area at Orlando airport.

Best Airport Shuttle from Orlando Airport (MCO) to Disneyworld Area:

If you are at the airport and need a shuttle service, you can find them on both the A and B sides of the main terminal, at the commercial lane parking spaces (A9-A10, A36-A37, B9-B10, B40-B41) or on the ground transportation level. Mears Transportation Group comes highly recommended from many that use them and the official Orlando airport website also lists them. Mears has been in business since 1939 and they are very reputable in out of MCO. They have shuttle services, luxury sedans, taxi services, and charter buses. Airport Shuttle versus Taxi/Cab:

Taxis are definitely the fastest way to get to your hotel or resort. They will also cost you a bit more if you are traveling by yourself or with just 1 more person. Airport shuttles out of Orlando are the cheapest way to go if you are traveling alone. Otherwise, if you are a family of 3 or 4, consider taking a cab to your Disneyworld hotel or any offsite lodging at Disneyworld. We went with a company called Far N Away Travel which provided a GMC Yukon to take my wife, our 2 kids, and myself to the Sheraton Vistana Village on International Drive. If it hadn't been part of a package deal I would have tried to get a taxi to take us for the $40 instead of getting into a shuttle that would have charge us probably $50 for the same thing and we would have had to stop at other resorts along the way if other passengers were in the van.
