Arriving into San Francisco Airport (SFO):San Francisco International Airport, otherwise known as SFO, is one of the largest airports on the West Coast. International and domestic flights pour into this airport daily with non-stops from Tokyo, Paris, London, Munich, JFK, LAX, Seoul, and dozens more. SFO airport has 4 terminals that essentially form a circle and you can walk around the entire loop in about 25 minutes or so. AirTrain is the airports "people mover" that will efficiently take you between terminals, the BART station, garages, and the Rental Car area. Like most airports, the departures and airline ticketing counters are on the upper levels and the arrivals and baggage claim carousels can be found on the lower level. Delays are rare due to weather at SFO except when the fog becomes so thick it's impossible to fly in or out for small periods of time.
Where is SFO located? San Francisco International Airport is right off the 101 Freeway near the 380 interchange. It's about 13 miles south of San Francisco. Approaching the airport from the South, come up Highway 101 North until you get to the airport exit. Traffic in the Bay Area can be exceptional bad on the 101 during commute times, so give yourself plenty of time when driving to the airport for departures and arrivals. There is a general map of the San Francisco Airport listed below with terminals, gates, parking info, and BART station location.
The main website for the SFO airport is located at Flysfo.com. The site is loaded with information on the airport including ground transportation options, parking lot and garage details, arrival and departure listings, airlines that service the airport and much more. Below we have listed all the official airlines that fly in and out of SFO Airport.
Terminal 1 - SFO hosts flights from Air Canada, AirTran Airways, Alaska Airlines, America West Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Horizon Air, Northwest (Domestic), and Sun Country.

San Francisco Airport Parking:We all know that parking at any airport these days can be a hassle and expensive as more and more airports try to get travelers to use the long term parking lots and price short term parking extremely high. SFO is no different with short term parking lots at the airport costing about $28 (max per first 24-hrs) and up to $35 (per additional 24 hours). It's $1 per 12 minutes in short term parking, so avoid that hourly expense whenever possible. Long Term Parking is offsite and a shuttle ride service will take you from the terminals out to the parking lots. Long term parking at SFO is $12 per 24 hours and is a good deal if you plan on being gone for more than a few days. The parking garage offers covered parking spots and the shuttle bus will drop you off relatively close to your parking space. The shuttle buses operate 24 hours a day and run every 5 to 15 minutes. Some airlines will even let you check your bags and get boarding passes right in the garage for a small fee. There is a good map with all the latest pricing on parking at San Francisco Airport HERE. One tip, with the long term parking lots being so vast, write down your parking space # and floor level to be sure you remember where you are parked when you return from your trip.
Airport Shuttles and Limousines:If you have the option, consider taking a San Francisco Airport shuttle to the airport instead of hassling with driving and parking. Lorrie's Airport Service offers rides from SFO to San Francisco and back for easy roundtrip travel. You can visit their website online at Lorries-shuttles.com. At the time of this article, the rates were $26 roundtrip for an adult. Bayporter.com is another company that handles shared ride "Door to Door" service to and from the San Francisco Airport from various spots in the Bay Area. Quakecityshuttle.com will take you from the SFO airport to San Francisco city for $12 and there is a coupon you can print out online at their website. My experience with airport shuttles is that they can be unreliable sometimes and you need to double check all the details with them so that you catch your flight on time. Another option is to go with a airport limousine service. By using a San Francisco Airport limousine service you get a more private ride with comfort in mind for not a whole lot more money than the shuttle vans that take people to airports. If there are 4 or more in your group, consider a limo service like SFlimo.com or Charterlimousines.com.
