Thrifty Rental Cars

Many people don't know that the same company that owns Dollar rent a car also runs Thrifty. Therefore, you are not getting some subpar rental when going through Thrifty, just a slightly different experience. Thrifty is marketed, as the name says, to those that are 'thrifty' in their shopping habits and it does quite well with over 1000 locations in 68 countries throughout the world. You will find Thrifty car rental office both on-site at airports and off-site in your local rental markets. The Blue Chip Express Rental Program keeps customers loyal to their brand by giving them perks and discounts with almost every rental. Some of their rental cars feature "GPS-enabled navigation via the Garmin StreetPilot c330 and nuvi 660". Although you won't find Thrifty at as many onsite airport locations as say Dollar, Avis, or Hertz, it is often worth the time to check out their rates to wherever your travels take you to.

Renting with Thrifty:

A Thrifty rental car is easy to get if you just go to their website at Thrifty.com. Just enter your pertinent information and see what is available in the city you are headed to. If you have corporate #'s or Promotional #'s enter those as well for the discounts. The Blue Chip members should login so that you can get your reservations in a hurry. Choose from compact, mid-size, standard, full-size, premium, luxury, SUV, minivan, wagons convertibles, or pickups. Rates are overall very competitive in most cities, but keep in mind that all their locations are as convenient as the major brands that tend to be nearer to the airport or on-site. Like other car rental companies they want you to get the collision and supplimental insurance when you rent. Check with your private auto insurance or credit card company before renting since 90% of the time one or both of those agencies is covering you when you rent the car. No sense in handing over $10+/day to the rental car company for no reason. When it comes to filling up the gas tank, do it yourself and save a few bucks. The prepay option is not bad if you plan on returning the car on a nearly empty tank. By no means return the car empty if you told them you were going to fill it up or else it will cost you $6/gallon or more.

Coupons and Discount Codes:

By all means, look for Thrifty rental coupon codes online before renting a car with them. I even was sent some discount rates through my private car insurance company that save probably $85 on my last rental. Thrifty doesn't have the same prestige as say Avis or Hertz but you can score some good deals when renting through them. One site we always visit online is HERE. Mousesavers has saved us well over $1000 over the last 5-6 years by providing up to date promotional rates and insider information on getting the lowest rate when renting. You get 5%, 10%, even up to 30% off your rental each time which adds up. Even when I am traveling for business I look on their site for the latest promo codes that might get me additional partner miles or reward points with hotel chains. The Blue Chip Express Rental Program from Thrifty also provides free days with certain rentals, e-coupons sent via email, and upgrade offers. Be sure to join the program (see below) since it is FREE.

Thrifty Blue Chip Express Rental Program & Blue Chip Rewards:

Thrifty offers two perks programs - the Blue Chip Express and the Blue Chip Rewards. The Express program is FREE and helps speed up your rental process so you can get out of the rental office faster. Just present your drivers license and credit card, sign the contract and off you go. There's nothing better than shorter lines when traveling and trying to book a rental car. The Blue Chip Rewards membership is also FREE and lets you accrue free rental days. You also get 50% off upgrade rates and a dedicated team of customer service reps that will get you away from the rental counter in on time at all. You can sign up online HERE. It takes only a few minutes and will ultimately save you lots of time and money.
