Townplace Suites (Marriott) in Campbell, California:I do a lot of traveling back and forth to the Bay Area from Portland, Oregon. I grew up in the Bay Area and my wifes' family still lives there so we find ourselves down there quite a bit. We have stayed in various hotels over the years including Courtyard, Residence Inn, and Holiday Inn hotels in different cities and locations. We try to stay near the Pruneyard in Campbell since this is a good centralized location. In the past we stayed at the Pruneyard Inn which is a great location, but we found the rooms not as good as those offered at other hotels. Just last year we stayed at the Townplace Suites off of Saratoga Ave near Garden City and Kiely/Stevens Creek area which was nice, but out of the way in terms of where her family lives. This year the new Townplace Suites (run by Marriott) in Campbell opened up and we tried it for the first time. The main reason we like Townplace Suites is because we can get a 2 bedroom suite so that our children have a separate bedroom to sleep in and the room itself has a small kitchenette with refrigerator. With a small family, having those extra amenities can make traveling that much easier.
Location - How to get There?:The hotel is located right off of Campbell Ave in between Winchester and Bascom Ave. Depending on which freeway you get off of, you may have to come down Bascom or Union or Campbell Avenues. The hotel sits right next to highway 17 and the overpass that goes across Campbell Avenue. There is a nice park just a few steps from the hotel where your kids can play or you could actual ride bikes or go running on the trails. We prefer this location since it's so close to the Pruneyard shopping area that has restaurants, bank ATMs, and other stores. In either direction, you can get to downtown San Jose in minutes or jump on Highway 17 and be over to the coast (Santa Cruz) in about 30 minutes. San Francisco is a bit further taking closer to 50 minutes if you take the 280 freeway north. Overall this location is very centralized and downtown Campbell is improving each year we go back. Room Rates - Reservations:Room rates start at about $110 and go up to about $200/night. They offer studios with queens, 2 bedroom suites, and there are 95 suites total on 4 floors. We booked a 2 bedroom suite at $199/night during our stay and the layout was just great. There is a sitting area with TV, pullout couch, and coffee table. The small kitchen area has a dishwasher, oven, stove, refrigerator, silverware, glasses, and toaster. The two bedrooms each have a TV with remote and closets with plenty of hangers. The bathroom was good sized with a separate door for the shower and toilet area. You can call 800-257-3000 24 hours a day to make reservations at this hotel or you can all reach them via the local # which is 408-370-4510. I like booking online at Marriott.com where I can view rooms available and pricing right on my computer.
Amenities - Hotel Features:The hotel offers free parking and there are a few doors you can access the hotel from. Once inside the main lobby area, you are required to use a key card to enter the hallway where the room entrances are. They do this for security purposes which I found comforting. There is whirlpool, workout/fitness area, and breakfast room that serves complimentary morning food like bagels, cereal, fresh fruit, oatmeal, muffins, etc. There is Starbucks coffee available 24 hours a day in the lobby or breakfast room. The coin operated laundry on-site is a nice feature, although we never had to use it. You can even use the BBQ and picnic area outside if you are so inclined. For business travelers, they have a computer with Internet access near the lobby and a copy service, fax service, and shipping options. We found the computer to be quite crowded on most days although we had our own laptop from home which we used anyways. The rooms offer high speed Internet access for free which is always nice when you are traveling for business or pleasure.
Nearby Restaurants in Campbell:Downtown Campbell and the Pruneyard area have really developed over the last few years and there are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from when you stay at the Townplace Suites hotel. Since the weather is so good year round in the Bay Area, it's easy to walk from the hotel to either location and eat a meal. We suggest some of the following restaurants if you stay at this location. You will also find Starbucks, Barnes & Noble bookstores, and a great sandwich shop called Togos.
