United Airlines has been flying for decades around the United States and other destinations in the world. Their major hubs in the US are San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, and Washington DC. I have personally flown United to Hawaii, London, and down to the Caribbean islands. They compete much better on long haul flights across America compared to the shorter flights where airlines like Southwest have really taken some of their business. The Star Alliance was founded by United and features big name international airlines like Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, and South African Airways. If you have mileage with United Airlines you can virtually fly almost anywhere in the world through all their partners. That's one reason I am a member of Mileage Plus (see below) - their frequent flyer program. International travelers get rewarded quite nicely by being loyal to United.
The main United Airlines home page is located at United.com and the site is easy to navigate, has complete flight schedules to all cities they fly to, and gives you access to their frequent flyer program and rewards. Online check in is available 24 hours before your flight and you can select seats at the same time if you want. Print your boarding pass and off you go to the airport saving time at the ticket counter. Need a flight? Just type in the airport you are leaving from and the destination to see if United flys their. Select dates, times, etc. and search by price or schedule. You can even download the UA timetables to your PC or PDA. Route maps are available online as well with cities served and major hubs highlighted. Looking for a special deal? - Check out the planning and booking section for air, car, and hotel discounts that are offered. I signed up for their E-Fares and get emails from United which displays their latest specials on particular routes or for vacation packages. You can book travel reservations (flights, car, hotel) on the United.com website or by calling the United Airlines reservation phone number at 1-800-864-8331. I have to say that finding their phone # isn't easy. I guess most airlines have cut back on actual customer service employees and call centers are not staffed as much as they used to be.
Mileage Plus - Frequent Flyer Program:
Every airline has a frequent flyer program and certainly some are more generous than others. United Airlines frequent flyer program is called Mileage Plus and it's been around for decades. UA has had their ups and downs over the last 10 years and after 9/11 they were close to bankruptcy. The program remains intact and you can earn miles from a variety of sources including buying airline tickets, staying with their hotel partners, renting a car with companies that partner with United, and several other sources. If you get the VISA card for United (see below) you also can get 1000's of miles every year that go towards free flights both domestically and internationally. I have personally flown over 1/4 of a million miles on United Airlines and the frequent flyer program has always treated me well. A few times I have flown with their partner airline Lufthansa over to Europe and it was smooth and easy. You can learn all about the Mileage Plus program from United Airlines online HERE.
United Airlines Coupons and Promotion Codes:
Like any major airlines, UA is always trying to lure passengers back onto their airline through price incentives or promotions based on roundtrip airfare to certain destinations where they try to compete. If you get the Mileage Plus VISA card you get travel certificates that are worth redeeming for upgrades, companion fares, and even offers sometimes for first class seats. United Airlines coupon codes can be found on popular coupon related websites like Couponcabin.com and Momsview.com. We found several promo codes like the word "WARM" which when entered for travel to Florida saves $100, or you get FREE nights, or kids stay free. It's worth taking the few extra minutes online to find any coupon codes, write them down, and then try entering them when you book your flights and vacations at United.com. You'd be surprised at how easy it is to save $100 with only having to spend 5 to 10 minutes on a few websites tracking down the special promotional codes.
United Airlines Credit Card:
I have had the United Airlines Mileage Plus visa card for years. It was one of the first credit cards I ever signed up for and at first it was a good deal since I was traveling for work a lot. I consistently got back about 2 free flights a year and only had to pay the $60/yearly fee. Now that I work from home, the card is used less often I have even considered getting rid of it due to the yearly fee, but it may take my credit score down since I've had the United credit card for so long. Overall the credit card has been well worth it as I have accrued about 250,000 miles and flown free many times over - including a few times to Europe. If you signup for a United Mileage Plus VISA through Chase, you will get 30,000 bonus miles just for doing it. You earn miles for every mile you spend (1 mile for every eligible $1 spent). Considering you only need 25,000 miles to get a free roundtrip airfare across the United States, signing up seems like a no brainer if you need a new credit card. I also have a Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards VISA and I use both cards to accrue miles on both airlines in case one ends up going bankrupt.
Vacation Packages:
Sometimes it's cheaper to book your entire vacation through an airline to get the best prices on flights and hotels. I have found when I fly to Las Vegas on United Airlines that booking a combination flight and hotel through their Unitedvacations.com website I can often save quite a bit of money. Their Disney vacation special to Orlando or Anaheim are actually quite good as well. If you like skiing, then check out the latest deals to Whistler, Aspen, Park City, Breckenridge, and Jackson Hole. Most prices are quoted as departing from a major hub like Chicago Ohare or SFO and LAX on the west coast. They have promotion codes you can enter to get their "best price guarantee" on select vacation itineraries.
