Finding a Vacation Rental in the CaribbeanThe Caribbean offers so many islands and beautiful resorts it is truly amazing. I have been to places like St. John, St. Thomas, and Barbados and each one offers up something a little different. One thing that stays the same throughout this area are the gorgeous beaches, crystal clear waters for scuba diving or snorkeling, and top rate resorts that cater to your every need. For years I stayed at resorts like the St John Westin and Marriot in St. Thomas before I realized that I could pay similar money to be in a huge village or house with lots of space and privacy that the resorts just can't offer. I have since rented several villas through the VRBO.com (Vacation rentals by owner) site which serves up small bungalows to huge estates on hilltops in the Caribbean. You can choose from Barbados, Bermuda, St. Lucia. St. Barts, Virgin Islands, Antigua and more. The owners listings provide complete descriptions of bedrooms, photos, email address, and phone number where you can contact them. Most have an availability calendar that quickly lets you see just which dates are open if you want to rent from them. Many have weekly rental rates while some will do shorter stays depending on the season and pricing. Expect to rent for a minimum of 3 nights and in the peak seasons at least 1 week. Be sure to ask questions when you talk to the owners for tips on local activities, places to snorkel, etc. Your experience will be much more enjoyable if you rent through an owner than going to an overpriced resort that dings you for every little thing. In many cases, the best beaches are public in on these islands and everyone has access to them no matter where you stay.
