Finding a Vacation Rental in Costa RicaVacationing in Central America is not always easy as the language and cultural differences can get in the way. Staying in a resort community or hotel may sound like the best choice for accommodations but that is not always the case. Costa Rica has become a top destination since the prices are reasonable, many Americans are buying 2nd homes along their coastline, and the beaches are pristine. Guanacaste and Puntarenas are two specific locations which draw many US tourists. Even Alajuela is up and coming with new developments that offer timeshares and rentals. Several of our friends and 2 of my nieces have recently taken trips to Costa Rica and stayed in rental homes or condos on their trips and had nothing but great things to say about the experience. VRBO.com affords you the luxury of finding the perfect rental home or condo with their 100's of listings all offered by owners (not businesses). You will find photos, descriptions, and contact info for each property along with an availability calendar which shows you instantly which weeks or days are already taken. The listings for villas and 2 bedroom condos are plentiful and beachfront rental homes are very affordable. Kids need more space than a hotel can give you and that is why we always try to rent a home when we vacation for more than a few days. The fact you get a kitchen, more bedrooms, and often private pools or heated spas is just an added benefit. Costa Rica is a growing vacation spot and I'm sure it could turn into the next Cancun if developers have their way, but if you go now definitely try a vacation rental on VRBO to really experience the country.
