If you are a proud new owner of an iPhone, chances are you want to dress it up and customize it a bit. If you've tooled around with the iTunes interfaces, you've probably seen than you can sync up your collection of photos, music, videos, and more. But many people still ask us, how do I set wallpaper photos on my iPhone. It's really pretty easy -- and if you need help with your iPhone, we're glad you found us! The guide below will cover the basics of how you can browse through the existing photos on your iPhone, or take new pictures with the iPhone camera, and then use them as your background wallpaper photo.
What is iPhone wallpaper?
So let's get started. What exactly is iPhone wallpaper? Well, unlike on your PC or Mac, wallpaper is not the image you see on your iPhone "desktop" -- that is, the list of program icons (weather, stocks, SMS, calendar, etc.). Apple has chosen to make that just a plain black background. No, iPhone wallpaper is what you see when you turn your phone on, the screen where it asks you to slide to unlock the phone. Apart from the default time and date at the top, you can customize this screen to show any image you choose. There are 2 basic ways to select pictures as wallpaper. The first is to go in through the SETTINGS menu from the main screen. Once on the SETTINGS screen, the 6th item down the list should be WALLPAPER (just below SOUNDS and BRIGHTNESS). Click on WALLPAPER, and you bring up the photo viewing program, which shows your Camera Roll (pictures you have taken with the iPhone camera) and your picture folders (if any) that you have synced with your computer and copied over. There is also an extra item at the top of this screen, named WALLPAPER. Click on this item to see a built-in collection of wallpaper photos that Apple includes on the phone. There are 20 pics here, ranging from peacock feathers to flowers to the Mona Lisa. If you want one of these, click it, then when it is displayed full screen, click SET WALLPAPER - that's it. If you would rather use one of your own photos, instead open up the Camera Roll or your own picture folder and choose an image from there -- same process, select a photo and choose SET WALLPAPER. Once you confirm, that will be the image you see when your iPhone starts.
The other way to select wallpaper images on the iPhone is to go in through the Photos menu on the main home screen. Browse through your photos there. If you find one you want to make your wallpaper, click the far left button on the bottom of the screen (looks like an arrow coming out of a box), and up pops a menu letting you email the photo, use it as wallpaper, or assign it to a contact in your address book (will appear on the screen when they call). So just choose USE AS WALLPAPER, confirm, and you are set. You can change your wallpaper as often as you like. Feel free to experiment - pictures of your kids, spouse, dream vacation spot -- it is up to your imagination!
