Reviews on the Motorola KRZR - RIZR:

Motorola is second only to Nokia in market share of cell phones (22%) and it's continued to grow with the success of the Moto Razr. Now Motorola is offering the Krzr (pronounced Cray-zer) which is even slimmer in design than the Razr and has so many features we've listed them all below. The high gloss blue finish on the front of the Krzr looks great while the bright 1.9 inch main display has a 176X220 resolution. No new cellular phone would be complete without a camera included and Motorola has that covered with the 2.0 megapixel camera and 8x digital zoom. You can also capture and play back video at 15 frames per second. The KRZR comes loaded with J2ME games and screen savers, an enhanced phonebook, and Screen 3 technology which lets you see sports scores and news displayed on your phone when it's on standby. Battery life is rated at 3.25 to 6.5 hours of talk time and 8.25-14.5 days of standy time. The Motorola KRZR is expected out in the fall of 2006 and no pricing has yet been set. Check the Motorola.com site for the latest developments.

So far people testing the prototypes are adamant that the Krzr performs better than the Razr and will be a huge hit for Motorola. Cingular will offer the phone and one of the biggest challenges for cell phone manufacturers and even for carriers is how to keep people buying new cell phones every year or less. As we've seen in the PC market, the buying cycle has slowed considerably as the latest computers do way more than the average user could ever handle and therefore the forecasts for PC sales have dropped rapidly. I feel like the same thing will occur in the cell phone industry over the next year or so. It's really hard to dramatically change the design of new cell phones, so it's up to Motorola or Nokia to continually add features that users will flock to. Hopefully the cameras in these phones will get better and more people will learn how to actually view these photos on computers (not just on cell phones). Also, perhaps the video capture capabilities can push the next level of cell phone sales. In Japan and in Korea, many new cell phones are used as credit cards at soda machines and in some stores for charging items right to your cell phone account. The phone acts like your own personal wallet. We'll see how the public takes the new Motorola Krzr in the Fall of 2006.

  • An outer display with 96x80 resolution
  • 2 megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom

Motorola Rizr:

The new Motorola Rizr will be the first slide phone made by Motorola and can be used whether open or closed. It plays both music and video and features a 2 megapixel camera with storage of up to 1 GB. The phone comes with a metal keypad and optional graphics that look like the phone has been tattooed. There are 2 new RAZR phones due out this year as well with added internet functionalities and features. Motorola is hoping to continue their success with these new cell phones and try to steal market share from leader Nokia.
