Review: Nokia N810 Internet Tablet (not a cell phone!)
OK, first things first. When most of us think of Nokia products, we think of cell phones. And for good reason - Nokia has been a dominant wireless handset maker for many years. But this new release of the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet is not a phone. Let's repeat - the N810 is not cell phone! OK, we got that out of the way. What is the N810? Like the name says, it is designed as an Internet tablet, a small tool for real Internet access for people who want more than just a normal cell phone or smart phone can offer when it comes to web browsing, email, accessing Ebay, Facebook, Skype, etc. Think of it as a mini laptop computer in the shape of a small handheld device, and you are starting to get the picture. Oh, and it is also a fully featured GPS device, complete with built-in maps, so even without an Internet connection, you will know exactly where you are and have total access to road maps, points of interest, and everything GPS related. This gizmo is powered by a Linux-based operating system and a Mozilla-based web browser.
Nokia N810 Internet Tablet Features
While it might look like a portable photo viewing device with its large screen taking up the whole front of the N810, this little guy has a trick up his sleeve. The device slides open along its long side, exposing a QWERTY keyboard underneath. Having a real keyboard is what many Internet users clamor for -- trying to input text or web addresses on a standard number keypad with double and triple taps only works so well. But the large screen is also a touch screen, so you can use your finger, a stylus, or the keyboard for accessing and inputting data into the N810. The large screen makes reading and using GPS maps a snap - no problem getting directions or finding locations. And though this device is not officially a phone, it does fully support Skype, Ebay's Internet phone software, so you can make Skype calls if you have Wi-Fi Internet access. So yes, it also has a microphone and speakers so it can serve as a mini communication device when needed. Throw in a decent quality digital camera as well, and you can tackle video as well. With full browser Internet access, you can handle email from any of the online email providers - Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, etc.
This Internet Tablet is also a capable MP3 portable music player -- you can carry around a lot of tunes if you pack in an 10GB memory card. With full stereo playback, you just might be tempted to move beyond your iPod.

You can read more about the all the N series of Nokia phones, including the N810, at the official website, nseries.com. How much does the Nokia N810 cost? It has a list price of $497 USD when it launches in Nov. of 2007. Since it is not a cell phone, do not expect to find heavily discounted prices as part of some subscription contract -- remember, there are no monthly fees to pay to use the N810, so if you are the kind of person that like a free wireless device and a $50 monthly contract for 2 years (that would set you back $1200 over 2 years), then you will probably find a <$500 Internet device a real bargain!
