News, Review, and Pictures of the Sony Ericsson K750i cell phone
One of the few phones with a 2MP (megapixel) camera, the K750i combines phone, camera, FM radio, and MP3 player. Unfortunately Sony continues to insist on using its proprietary memory/storage solutions (Memory Stick), meaning that old memory card from your digital camera won't work here. In terms of design, Sony eschews the clam-shell flip phone look for the candy-bar style (similar to the 700i) - the highlight being the crisp, clear screen. One design complaint commonly heard is the keypad - plastic keys in a single block, making selection and pressing a little difficult. The menu navigation joystick is similar to what we have seen from Sony before - not great, but usable. (larger pictures below)
Flip the phone over and the camera lens and flash are staring at you. When you slide the lens cover open, the phone intelligently switches to photo mode - tempting you with 2 mega pixels of detail. So how does the camera actually hold up? The only other 2MP phone available (Samsung) left us wanting a little more, and the 750i delivers. Spitting out 1632x1224 pixel images, you get pictures comparable to digital cameras, and you get auto focus, self-timer, 4x zoom (digital). In proper lighting, you can conceivably leave your 2 or 3MP camera at home! There are 34MB of shared RAM for holding contacts and calendar, and Sony includes a 64MB memory stick (holds about 15 MP3 tunes, up to 4GB supported). The FM tuner gives you another music option, automatically grabbing the 20 strongest stations.
