New Sprint Phones for 2006 and 2007: Sprint PCS c290 - 6016i - A560 - RL-4920 - PM-225:

Sprint PCS has been in the telecom business for years and recently merged with Nextel to create one of the largest wireless carriers in the industry. Sprint Wireless gets cell phones from Motorola, NOkia, Samsung, LG and Sanyo. The latest and most popular phones include the Sprint PCS C290 branded by Motorola. It comes free with standard 2 year contract and offers built in speakerphone, full color screen, SMS text messaging, and a slim design. The Sprint 6016i from Nokia is candy bar shaped, has voice activated dialing, built in games, and a quality color screen. Our personal favorite is the Sprint PCS A560 by Samsung with built in ringtones, voice recorder, color screen and speakerphone. The phone is easy to use and the keypad worked well for text messaging.

The RL-4920 by Sanyo includes Sprint PCS Vision, an entertainment option that gives you games, screensavers, messaging, ringtones and more on a colorful screen. The phone costs $9.99 (after rebates) if you sign up for their contract. We found the phone to be lacking in many areas, but the overall reviews of the phone were good so perhaps it was just our experience that wasn't favorable. The Sprint PM-225 by LG runs $19.99 and is our favorite camera phone from Sprint. You can shoot digital pictures with the phone and the interface for sending the photos to other cell phones was easy to use, unlike other models we have tried. The pictures looked fine on the phone, but not on a computer. Other top phones from Sprint PCS include the RL-4930, VI-3155i, VI-2300, PM-A840, MM-A920, MM-8300, MM-7500, and the A900 from Samsung. Sprint offers a variety of phones with different capabilities ranging from camera phones, multimedia phones, ready link phones and power vision phones. You can get all the details you need on Sprint Cell phones at SprintPCS.com.

Sprint Prepaid Phones:

Now that many wireless phone carriers are giving phone plan on a prepaid basis, Sprint will surely follow their own prepaid cell phones. As of the time of this writing, there is no offer yet from Sprint for prepaids, but we suggest going to Nextel.com to find out details on what they offer. The Sprint website was not as helpful as the Nextel site. You can also check with your local Sprint Wireless dealer for details on the current prepaid offers.

Best Sprint Camera Phone:

Sprint currently offers about 8 camera phones and we put them to the test. Although picture quality is always suspect when viewing on a computer, the photos we took did look ok on the small cell phone screens. As noted above, we preferred the PM-225 from LG for ease of use. The PM-A840 and MM-A920 from Samsung looked the best in terms of picture quality. Both the Sanyo MM-8300 and MM-7500 were priced over $120 and include a nice digital camera, but the interface was lacking and hard to even figure out how to get to the pictures you took. The Sprint Power Vision A900 by Samsung was $199 and comes enabled with Sprint TV, a built in camcorder and camera. All the features worked well, but the camera was lacking in several areas. The 2.0 megapixel MM-A800 from Samsung was the most expensive option for camera phones, but the picture quality was the best with the extra megapixels. The screen display was ample, but we still prefer the LG phone best.

How do I get ringtones on my Sprint phone?

Getting ringtones delivered right to your Sprint cellular phone is easy these days. Just go to the main Sprint.com website and click on the Tones and Graphics section or you can also join a ringtone specific website like DadaMobile.com, Jamster.com, Katazo.com or UnlimitedRingTones.com. Usually ringtones and graphics cost about $1-$2/each and you can save money by subscribing to a monthly package that lets you get more ringtones for a cheaper cost per ringtone. There are also new Answer Tones available on the Sprint site. New software is also coming online where you can create your own ringtones from your own music. Give it a try at EasyRingtoneMaker.com.
